a walk in the rain

i went for a walk in the rain.
with a near stranger----one of those "we met online" situations
But how can you really "meet" online
You meet----face to face----a slight brust of fingers against an unsuspecting elbow
in line at the local coffee shop

and so we went for a walk
him and his herbal iced tea---pink in color. he seems secure. i dig.
me and my black coffee. small. my fourth cup on that sunday early afternoon.

my makeup-----carefully----naturally applied

because i went to church---and I'm still the kind of girl who wears a skirt and mascara to church

so we went for a walk
in the drizziling and pouring, sometimes sideways, Astoria rain

and we talked
we talked of ourselves, of our dreams, of our past and our presents

we talked of our quirks

and as we talked

almost symbolically but quite literally
and embarassing- i must admit

the rain washed my makeup away

the mascara stung my eyes

and left me standing naked

in front of him on the riverwalk.

completely honest
not a single blemish covered
no feature highlighted
or made to be more flattering than it really way

Raw......rainwashed....
that is how you meet someone.

I went for a walk in the rain
and met someone.
